A Rolling Stone gathers no moss.
12 years to this day, Keith Richards was released from hospital in New Zealand after the 63 year-old suffered "mild concussion" when he fell out of a coconut tree while on holiday in Fiji. He was airlifted to Auckland's Ascot Hospital for observation, where he underwent a brain scan.
Keith was 63 years old back then, so one can surely wonder what a millionaire rock star of that age was doing on top of a coconut tree in Fiji? Well, the man has given us plenty of reasons through to expect the unexpected from him! Either getting arrested by the police several times in the 60s and 70s for illegal substances, getting arrested again for reckless driving, having a notorious temper and characterized by the music press as "mad, bad, and dangerous to know", being a model on which Captain Jack Sparrow character was based and even starring at some of the films of the series…
Apart from all that, Keith Richards has given us plenty of reasons to admire him as composer and guitarist on the Rolling Stones, one of the biggest rock and roll band ever. And the man is also famous for his quotes. Let us review some:
“If you don't know the blues... there's no point in picking up the guitar and playing rock and roll or any other form of popular music.”
“It's great to be here. It's great to be anywhere.”
“Give me a guitar, give me a piano, give me a broom and string; I wouldn't get bored anywhere.”
“Everyone talks about rock these days; the problem is they forget about the roll.”
“To make a rock'n'roll record, technology is the least important thing.”
“You don't start to play your guitar thinking you're going to be running an organisation that will maybe generate millions.”
“Songwriting's a weird game. I never intended to become one - I fell into this by mistake, and I can't get out of it. It fascinates me. I like to point out the rawer points of life.”
All that we can say to Mr Richards is to be always in good health and good spirits. Thank you for the amazing music!
PS: The Rolling Stones are touring the UK within the next few weeks, so it is a good opportunity to enjoy them live once again!
